Timur Dossymbetov
Timur Kamalovich Dossymbetov, the first President of the Kazakhstan National Olympic Committee, eminent Kazakh sports official and a former world champion in pentathlon has posthumously been included in the UIPM Hall of Fame.
Dossymbetov was born on December 17, 1957 in Alma-Ata. He won two gold medals at the 1982 UIPM World Championships in Rome when he represented the former Soviet Union. He was a member of the USSR national team for many years.

Dossymbetov was born on December 17, 1957 in Alma-Ata. He won two gold medals at the 1982 UIPM World Championships in Rome when he represented the former Soviet Union. He was a member of the USSR national team for many years.
Dossymbetov wrote history for his beloved country, when he created the first National Olympic Committee for Kazakhstan in 1990, an authority he went on to serve with great distinction as its first president and in various important roles.
Under his leadership the Kazakh sportsmen took part in seven winter and five summer Olympic Games, six summer and five winter Asian games, winter and summer Youth Olympic and Paralympic Games and various other international events.
He has been a world-class pentathlete, repeatedly winning major international competitions, a great sports politician, and a man for friendship and with vision. He was awarded the title of Honoured Master of Sports and served UIPM as a member of the UIPM Technical Committee and our Executive Board as UIPM Member for Development.
Dossymbetov died in Almaty on December 3, 2015 after a long illness. A year later, for his contribution to the development of pentathlon, he was posthumously awarded the medal ‘Honorary Member of the UIPM” and is now member of the UIPM Hall of Fame.
