Bolivia hosts successful South American Championships
Cochamba in Bolivia was the venue for the 2017 South American Championships (SACH) from December 14-18, which drew competitors from eight countries.
Delegations from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and French Guiana took part alongside their Bolivian hosts in the annual continental showpiece.
This year’s competition was unique in that it was promoted as a preparatory event for the 2018 South American (ODESUR) Games, which will also take place in Cochamba.
Argentina won seven gold medals, including both team and junior individual titles, with two-time Olympian Iryna Khokhlova (ARG) taking the Senior Women’s Individual gold.
Esteban Bustos (CHI) took home the Senior Men’s Individual title, while there was success for Brazil in the Senior Mixed Relay.
Prior to the championships, a certification for judges taking part in the 2018 ODESUR Games took place and the participants officiated over the SACH. UIPM was represented by Technical Delegate Ana Ruth Orellana (GUA).
There was also a CISM Modern Pentathlon competition, at which the military governing body was represented by Lt Col Guillermo Filipi (ARG).
