Certified and sustainable: UIPM launches digital licensing cards for judges and coaches

• New e-card system replaces plastic cards and international shipping
• Credentials updated instantly after courses, renewals and level progression
• Direct notifications will strengthen communication across the technical community

MONACO: August 06, 2026 – The Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) has launched a new digital licensing card system for judges and coaches, delivering a more sustainable, efficient and connected approach to technical certification.

The new e-cards will replace the plastic cards previously issued to judges after the completion of a UIPM Judges Certification Programme course. By eliminating plastic production and international delivery, the initiative will significantly reduce waste and transport emissions.

UIPM Judges will now receive their digital licence immediately after completing the relevant course. Any subsequent changes to their credentials, including progression through Levels 1 to 3 or licence renewal following an online refresher course, will be reflected automatically without the need to manufacture and distribute a replacement card.

For the first time, UIPM Coaches will also receive official licensing cards through the digital system. The platform will later be extended to judges and coaches joining UIPM through the integration of the Federation Internationale de Sports d’Obstacles (FISO), supporting a fully aligned technical workforce across UIPM Sports.

The cards can be stored in Google Wallet and Apple Wallet, giving officials immediate and convenient access to their current credentials. The system will also provide UIPM with a direct communication channel through which important information and notifications can be sent to licensed coaches and judges.

Judges will receive their credentials immediately and every advancement or renewal can be updated automatically, making the process faster, more reliable and far easier to manage worldwide.”

It will provide clear recognition of their qualifications while also helping UIPM maintain closer and more direct communication with our global coaching community.”

The introduction of e-cards forms part of UIPM’s broader commitment to reducing unnecessary materials and travel-related emissions while using digital technology to improve the experience of its global community.

By removing repeated card-production and shipping cycles, UIPM will create a simpler and more sustainable system that keeps every licence accurate, current and readily accessible.
