Global Laser-Run City Tour 2018: Love affair continues in Abrantes (POR)
All over Portugal, the legacy of the UIPM Laser-Run World Championships continues to be apparent with more and more people embracing the sport.
In 2016, the world’s best Laser-Run athletes of all ages gathered in the capital city of Lisbon to compete for global titles.
In 2017, Portugal staged three instalments of the Global Laser-Run City Tour in different cities and in 2018 the country is staging three more, with rising participation numbers reflecting a heightened interest in Laser-Run across the nation - especially in youth categories.
The first of this year’s events took place in the city of Abrantes (POR) on June 2.
The venue was Aquapolis, a sports park near the river Tejo in the centre of Abrantes, and on a sunny day hundreds of athletes competed in a number of individual and Mixed Relay categories from Under-11 to Masters 60+.
The love affair between Portugal and the Global Laser-Run City Tour continues with events in Alenquer on July 1 and Amadora on September 23.
The UIPM Global Laser-Run City Tour was created in 2017 to deliver an exciting, dynamic and fun competition to participants of all ages and offer them an entry point to UIPM Sports.
The Global LRCT took place in parks, stadiums and iconic urban venues in 60 cities around the world in 2017, with more than 15,000 participants. There are about 100 events scheduled in 2018.
