Laser Run athletes write ‘new chapter in Mongolian sports history’ in Ulaanbaatar (MGL)
The growth of Laser Run, UIPM’s most popular and accessible development sport, has embraced another new territory after the Modern Pentathlon Association of Mongolia (MPAM) held its first Laser Run National Championships
The event was held on January 21 indoors at the Steppe Arena in Ulaanbaatar, organised by MPAM in collaboration with the Mongolian Sports Corporation.
A total of 76 athletes — 25 women and 51 men — were drawn from the military, police and local sports and crossfit clubs, and participated in four categories.
The National Championships were televised live by two of Mongolia’s local free-to-air broadcasters (C1 and TV5) with coverage on their social media pages. Visit the Pentathlon Mongolia Facebook page to find out more.
A spokesperson for the MPAM said: “With the great support from UIPM, we’re able to organize competitions here. We do believe the Laser Run NC would be a big step for development of the Pentathlon in Mongolia.
“Thank you to all athletes, organizers and supporting organizations for opening a new page in Mongolian sports history.”
The 2023 edition of UIPM’s Global Laser Run City Tour will kickstart in March and April with events in Kuwait, South Africa, Lithuania and Georgia.
