Pentathlon judges primed for 2018 Asian Games after course in Jakarta (INA)

UIPM News

The 2018 Asian Games will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia later this month and UIPM has certified more than 30 judges to oversee the Modern Pentathlon competition.

A course was held from July 30 to August 3 in the Indonesian capital, which will host the best athletes from across the world’s most populous continent from August 18 to September 2.

The pentathlon takes place in the closing days of the Games (August 31 / September 1) and the judges have earned the opportunity to be involved by gaining a qualification under the UIPM Judges Certification Programme (JCP).

The course was run by Janusz Peciak, 1976 Olympic Modern Pentathlon champion and UIPM Executive Board Member for Sport, and the syllabus included a test event competition that was held in order for the judges to perform their roles in real conditions.

“The Asian Games is the biggest multi-sport event in the Eastern Hemisphere and in Jakarta you can feel all the excitement that a multi-sport event generates.

“There are amazing facilities there and our Indonesian judges have been getting a lot of experience. They are willing to learn and now they will have the chance to deliver a great competition.”
