Pioneering former pentathlete Aya Medany OLY elected as IOC Member

Three-time Olympian and former UIPM Athletes Committee Chair Aya Medany OLY celebrated a new milestone in her trail-blazing journey as she was elected as an IOC Member at the 142nd IOC Session in Paris (FRA).

The youngest of a cohort of eight new IOC Members, Medany, who is a Member of the Egyptian Parliament, was thrust into immediate ceremonial duties. One of her first tasks in an official IOC capacity was to present compatriot Ahmed Elgendy (EGY) with his historic gold medal after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Men’s Final in Versailles.

A UIPM World Championship silver medalist in 2008, Medany has been a vocal campaigner and representative in her efforts to give voice to young Egyptian and Africans as well as female Muslim athletes everywhere.
