UIPM 2016 World Cup #2 - Men`s Individual Finalists

The Rio 2016 Olympic Games venues for Modern Pentathlon have now been tested by the majority of the world's leading pentathletes after the Men's Individual Qualifying took place at World Cup #2 in Rio de Janeiro today.

A day after their female counterparts christened the venues at Deodoro Park, in the wake of an official inauguration, the leading men competed for places in the final of the second event of the 2016 UIPM World Cup season, which doubles as an official Olympic Test Event.

Many of the participants are still pursuing Olympic qualifying points as well as trying to secure a place on the podium in Rio and a place at the World Cup Final in Sarasota/Bradenton, USA (May 6-8).

The Men's Individual Qualifying took centre stage after the Women's Individual Final kicked off day two of World Cup #2 in the morning.

The final began with Fencing (Ranking Round) 24 hours ahead of the rest of the event after organisers decided to mirror the timetable that will be used at the Olympic Games. This reserves the more dramatic spectacle of the Fencing programme - the Bonus Round - for spectators watching on final day.

World Cup #2 continues tomorrow with the Fencing Ranking Round that kicks off the Men's Individual Final, before the Women's Individual Final resumes as they compete for medals in Swimming, Fencing (Bonus Round), Riding and Combined Event (run/shoot).

On Sunday the men return to complete their own Individual Final, with the Mixed Relay closing proceedings on Monday.

Starting today at 1830 local time (2130 GMT), the Combined Event of each final at World Cup #2 will be available on live stream at UIPM's new online TV channel uipmtv.org. For up-to-date results of all competitions go to pentathlon.org.
