UIPM 2018 Global Laser-Run City Tour: Poland joins the party in Kosakowo
Barely a week has passed in 2018 without a new nation joining the Global Laser-Run City Tour, and the latest newcomer is a country with a rich pentathlon pedigree.
Kosakowo, a northern coastal city on the Baltic Sea, hosted the first GLRCT in Poland on August 4. People of all ages took part, from young children to Masters athletes, with particularly high numbers in the youth categories.
A spokesperson for the local organizing committee said: “Even though the temperature was really high, our participants fought so bravely. The fighting spirit was present throughout the event, especially during our youngest participants’ round.
“Aside from the spirit, the atmosphere was supported by many fans and beautiful weather. People were amazed by the racing and are looking forward for another Laser-Run event in our region.”
Poland has produced three individual Olympic medallists: men’s champions Janusz Peciak (1976) and Arkadiusz Skrzypaszek and women’s bronze medallist Oktawia Nowacka (2016).
The UIPM Global Laser-Run City Tour was created in 2017 to deliver an exciting, dynamic and fun competition to participants of all ages and offer them an entry point to UIPM Sports.
The Global LRCT took place in parks, stadiums and iconic urban venues in 60 cities around the world in 2017, with more than 15,000 participants. There are about 100 events scheduled in 2018.
Laser-Run is a development sport of UIPM but aspiring athletes of all ages also have the chance to compete for global titles at the UIPM Laser-Run World Championships, which are taking place in Dublin (IRL) on September 28-30, 2018.
