UIPM 2019 Global Laser Run City Tour: Laser Run opens 550th anniversary party in Cheboksary (RUS)
In the centre of Cheboksary, the capital of the Chuvashia region, Russia staged another highly successful edition of the Global Laser Run City Tour on August 17
The event kicked off celebrations for the 550th anniversary of Cheboksary, an important port on the Volga River. More than 250 people aged seven to 80 took part and all finishers were presented with a medal bearing a duckling, the main symbol of the anniversary.
Aleksei Murygin, President of the Federation of Modern Pentathlon of the Chuvash Republic, said: “I thank UIPM and the Russian Modern Pentathlon Federation (RMPF) for this opportunity. I am sure that all athletes have enjoyed the competition and will come to participate again.”
Participant Alexandra Ivanova, 15, said: “I have been doing athletics for two months, so after reading about Laser Run competitions on the internet I immediately registered. My impressions were excellent, I really liked the organization. It feels like the Olympics! A lot of support, and everyone is encouraged. I am 100% satisfied.”
The competition was attended by Eduard Zenovka, RMPF Executive Director, who pointed out the excellent and high level of competition organization and declared that Cheboksary was ready for other national and international pentathlon events.
The entertainment programme included a performance by the Chuvash State Ensemble on stage, which energized the atmosphere. The Fitness Aerobics Federation conducted a vibrant mass warm-up, charging spectators and participants with a positive attitude.
The GLRCT was created to provide an entry point to UIPM Sports for people of all ages in urban communities around the world.
Another 100 cities have been selected in 2019 as hosts of the GLRCT or the Biathle/Triathle National Tour. The full calendar can be viewed at the UIPM website, where you can also find more information on UIPM’s various multi-discipline sports.
In September, the UIPM Laser Run World Championships will be incorporated into the Pentathlon World Championships for the first time in Budapest (HUN), where Laser Run is also on the programme for the 1st World Urban Games.
In December, Laser Run and Triathle will both feature for the first time in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in the Philippines.
