UIPM 2019 Global Laser Run City Tour: #PentathlonDay party in Vitebsk (BLR)
The 2nd Pierre de Coubertin Pentathlon Day was celebrated right across the UIPM Sports world, but perhaps nowhere with more vigour than in Vitebsk (BLR) on September 8.
The Belarusian Federation of Modern Pentathlon seized the moment by organizing a Global Laser Run City Tour in the heart of one of the country’s most beautiful cities – attracting an incredible 500 participants.
The Vitebsk GLRCT formed part of a sports festival in a square near the Summer Amphitheatre where the "Slavyanski Bazaar in Vitebsk" International Arts Festival is held each year.
Athletes came from sports and comprehensive schools, universities and regional enterprises, with 190 coming from the “Burevestnik-73” Vitebsk School of Sports and Athletics. There was an impressive age range of six to 77.
A spokesperson for the local organising committee said: “Many veterans of physical education and sports took an active part in the Global Laser Run City Tour in Vitebsk. Their successes and love for a healthy lifestyle were noted during the awards ceremony.
“The greatest number of medals was won by athletes from Vitebsk. Their success demonstrated that anyone, regardless of their initial shooting skills, can climb the podium in the Laser Run competition.”
The Global Laser Run City Tour was created in 2017 to provide an entry point to UIPM Sports for people of all ages in urban communities around the world.
Another 100 cities have been selected in 2019 as hosts of the GLRCT or the Biathle/Triathle National Tour. The full calendar can be viewed at the UIPM website, where you can also find more information on UIPM’s various multi-discipline sports.
In September, the UIPM Laser Run World Championships was incorporated into the Pentathlon World Championships for the first time in Budapest (HUN), where Laser Run also featured as a showcase sport at the 1st World Urban Games.
In December, Laser Run and Triathle will both feature for the first time in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in the Philippines.
