UIPM 2021 Biathle-Triathle World Championships: Individual Biathle glory for Bucher (GER) and Beisenbayev (KAZ)
Ten nations signed off in style with gold medals on the fourth and final day of the UIPM 2021 Biathle-Triathle World Championships.
Host nation Germany won four of the 20 Individual Biathle titles and Anne-Kathrin Bucher became the new senior world champion, finishing 7sec ahead of silver medallist Alessia Mancini of Italy with Pinelopi Nika of Greece a further 14sec behind.
Kazakhstan again performed strongly especially on the men’s side, with Ayan Beisenbayev beating team-mate Meirlan Iskakov to senior gold, with bronze medallist Panagiotis Bitados (GRE) pushing them close.
Matej Lukes of Czech Republic followed up his Triathle gold with a thrilling 2sec junior victory over Rashit Romanchuk (KAZ), while Carina Reicht won the women’s junior title for Austria ahead of one of the week’s most prolific athletes, Johanna Maria Jogisu of Estonia.
Egypt confirmed their overall supremacy with another six youth titles taking their competition tally of gold medals to 16, six more than Germany. South Africa finished third in the medal table with five golds, ahead of Kazakhstan (four). An impressive Czech team captured the most medals – 27 – with Germany picking up 26 and Egypt 23.
Denmark, France, Great Britain, Italy and Turkey were the other nations to scale the top step of the podium on the final day of a successful week in the Bavarian lakeside venue.
Biathle (Run-Swim-Run) and Triathle (Swim-Run-Shoot) have been pillars of the global growth of UIPM Sports and 315 athletes from 25 countries took part this week with age categories ranging from Under-9 to Masters 60+.
UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann said: “Once again here in Weiden we have seen the positive outcomes of UIPM’s development programme with a hugely successful UIPM Biathle-Triathle World Championships.
“Congratulations to the local organising committee who did an excellent job preparing a great venue for Biathle and Triathle and coping with all different weather conditions to ensure everybody had a chance to compete and create special memories.
“It was wonderful to see more than 300 athletes from 25 countries here in Weiden and not only to watch them take part, but to see high-quality performances from so many teams and athletes of all ages who have clearly remained committed to their training during the pandemic.
“After the cancellation of so many competitions in 2020 linked to COVID-19, we are delighted to have had such a wonderful 2021 season with many international opportunities to compete in Modern Pentathlon, Tetrathlon, Triathle, Biathle and Laser Run.
“We now look forward to returning to Egypt for the UIPM 2021 Youth World Championships (U19/U17) from September 13-19 and once again I urge our global community to join us in Alexandria with as many participants as possible, given the travel limitations still in place for many countries.”
The UIPM 2021 Biathle-Triathle World Championships has now concluded. Next year's edition will be in Machico, Madeira (POR). Results are available via the ‘UIPM Central’ app and on the competition home page.
