UIPM 2024 Pentathlon U17 World Championships: Ramadan (EGY) and Gnedtchik (AIN) star in Fencing Ranking Round

The UIPM 2024 Pentathlon U17 World Championships continued today as the Fencing Ranking Round kicked off the Women’s and Men’s Individual Finals in Caldas da Rainha (POR).

 

Egypt athletes were very dominant in the Women’s Fencing, with Ritage Ramadan and Farida Khalil winning a remarkable 28 and 27 victories respectively from their 35 bouts. Five athletes in the chasing pack will resume the Final 30 points adrift – Elena Arkison of CanadaDiana Rajncsak and Ivola Turbucz of HungarySamira Abzalova of Uzbekistan and Hannah Dicks of Germany.

 

There was another standout performance in the men’s competition as Akim Gnedtchik (AIN) matched Ramadan (EGY) with an impressive 28 touches and only seven defeats. Nearest rivals Emir Kurtulan Muhammet of Türkiye and Maksym Kovalchuk of Ukraine will resume 25 points behind the leader after each scoring 23V/12D.

 

The UIPM 2024 Pentathlon U17 World Championships reaches a climax on Saturday, September 14 as the new individual world champions are confirmed. The Mixed Relay then closes the competition on September 15.
