UIPM 2024 Pentathlon U19 World Championships: Women’s Qualification
The UIPM 2024 Pentathlon U19 World Championships continued today with 52 athletes competing in the Women’s Individual Qualification in Druskininkai (LTU).
With the 18 best performers in each of two qualification groups earning passage to Saturday’s Women's Final, competition was high-stakes and the next generation of Pentathlon delivered with multiple new world records being set.
Qualification Group A was dominated by Farida Khalil of Egypt. The 13-year-old revelation is looking to add U19 honours to the U17 world title she retained two weeks ago and already claimed Women’s Relay gold on Tuesday. She started her individual challenge in ominous fashion as she racked up 1,395 points, more than 50 clear of the field and the day’s top overall score. Yerim Kim of Korea was second with Alia Enayet (EGY) and Zoe Spokes of Great Britain close behind.
Records tumbled in the day’s second group where Alexandra Fernandes of Czechia set a new Obstacle record in a time of 00:27.62. Soon after, Wakana Uchiyama from Japan established a new Swimming record at U19 level with a rapid 02:09.01. Both safely progressed to the Final with Group B being topped by Emma Meszaros of Hungary ahead of Annachiara Allara of Italy and Coline Flavin of France, a Mixed Relay gold medalist at this event last year.
The UIPM 2024 Pentathlon U19 World Championships runs from September 24-29, continuing on Thursday, September 26 with Men’s Qualification. Both Individual Finals will take place on Saturday with the Mixed Relay closing the competition on Sunday September 15.
