UIPM 2024 Pentathlon World Championships: Men's Qualification

The UIPM 2024 Pentathlon World Championships continued today with 79 athletes competing in three Men's Individual Qualification heats.

All three medallists from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games - Joseph Choong of Great Britain, Ahmed Elgendy of Egypt and Woongtae Jun of Korea - were among the successful qualifiers.

Elgendy (EGY) was first across the line in Qualification Group A, with the day's highest score of 1,214 points, followed by Changwan Seo (KOR), Bugra Unal of Türkiye and Moutaz Mohamed (EGY).

There was a three-way combined finish at the front of Qualification Group B, with two-time world champion Valentin Belaud of France crossing alongside the UIPM 2024 Pentathlon World Cup Final winner, Csaba Bohm of Hungary, and Mohamed Elgendy (EGY).

Another Egypt athlete, Mohanad Shaban (EGY), led the way in Qualification Group C, together with Martin Vlach of Czechia as they were closely followed by Jun (KOR) and Maksim Maruk (AIN).

The UIPM 2024 Pentathlon World Championships continues tomorrow (June 13) with the Women’s Semi-finals, followed by the Men’s Semi-finals on June 14, the Finals on June 15 and the Mixed Relay on June 16.
