UIPM 2024 Pentathlon World Cup Final: Prades (FRA) the one to catch in Men’s Final
- Three-time champion excels in Fencing to lead ahead of Bohm (HUN)
- Hernandez (MEX) and Seo (KOR) within 15 points as Jun (KOR) lurks
- Elgendy brothers and Mohamed (EGY) also poised for a shot at podium
Three-time gold medallist Valentin Prades of France has carried a slim lead into the Men’s Final at the UIPM 2024 Pentathlon World Cup Final, with Csaba Bohm of Hungary in close pursuit.
Prades (FRA) stood tall in the Fencing Ranking Round with 23 victories and 11 defeats, giving him a five-point advantage over Bohm (HUN) after his collection of 22 touches.
Behind them, an intense multi-continental race to the finish line beckons, with Emiliano Hernandez of Mexico and Changwan Seo of Korea well capable of mounting a challenge starting 15 points behind Prades (FRA).
And the rest of the field is packed with world-class quality, as Mohamed and Ahmed Elgendy and their team-mate Moutaz Mohamed of Egypt are not far away, and Woongtae Jun (KOR) also lurks in 10th place – all of them are within 25sec of the leader.
Hernandez (MEX) was first home with 5ec to spare in Semi-final A, followed by the quartet of Seo (KOR), Giorgio Malan of Italy, Balazs Szep (HUN) and Mohamed Elgendy (EGY). Matteo Cicinelli (ITA) held off Patrick Dogue of Germany in the battle for the 9th and last place in the Final.
Semi-final B was rather less dramatic in the end, after Marvin Dogue (GER) went one better and left behind local hopeful Bugra Unal of Türkiye at the final shoot to secure the final qualification place.
The heat was won by Ahmed Elgendy (EGY) and Bohm (HUN) with the highest score of the day (1,471 points), followed by Mohamed (EGY).
