UIPM 2025 Pentathlon World Cup Cairo: Khalil (EGY) stands out in Women’s Qualification

History was made at UIPM 2025 Pentathlon World Cup Cairo as athletes in the Women’s Qualification round became the first to compete in a senior global competition featuring Obstacle.

Paris 2024 Olympic champion Michelle Gulyas of Hungary finished 9th in Group B after a competitive Obstacle time of 35.90sec. She crossed the line together with team-mate Blanka Bauer (HUN) and will be joined in the Semi-finals by Blanka Guzi (HUN) and Rita Erdos (HUN), who finished 2nd and 4th respectively in Group A.

Group A was dominated by 14-year-old Farida Khalil of Egypt, who achieved comfortably the highest score of the round with her points total of 1,442 – 42 more than world No.2 Guzi (HUN). Yuri Suzuki of Japan joined the home athletes and the Hungarians in the top five.

First across the line in Group B was Ganah Elgindy (EGY), followed by a cluster of Egyptians and Aurora Tognetti of Italy. In total there were only four eliminations in the new Obstacle discipline.

Pentathlon World Cup Cairo continues tomorrow (February 26) with Men's Qualification and Women’s Fencing Seeding Round, followed by the Semi-finals on February 27-28 and the Finals on March 1.
