UIPM Executive Board update

UIPM News
  • Obstacle Taskforce created to focus on Obstacle community integration
  • Beijing (CHN) to host first four editions of UIPM Obstacle World Championships (OCR)
  • UIPM 2026 Pentathlon World Cups awarded to Catania (ITA) and Budapest (HUN)

All members of the Executive Board of the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) met online today and made a series of decisions relating to the future of the movement.

The EB voted unanimously for the immediate creation of an Obstacle Taskforce, which will focus on the integration of the Obstacle racing community within the UIPM Sports movement.

This follows the vote by UIPM 2024 Congress in favour of an UIPM Obstacle Commission, which will focus more on the commercial possibilities of community integration and development.

A series of competitions was also awarded by the EB, as follows:

  • UIPM 2026 Pentathlon World Cup: Catania, Italy
  • UIPM 2026 Pentathlon World Cup Final: Budapest, Hungary
  • UIPM 2025-2028 Obstacle World Championships (OCR): Beijing, China

More information about the brand new UIPM Obstacle World Championships (OCR) will be sent out via press release on Friday 11 April.

While much of the conversation centred around the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games cycle, UIPM Vice President Kitty Chiller OLY of Australia was asked during the meeting to take the lead in liaison with the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games Organising Committee.

UIPM President Rob Stull OLY said: “Following the success of the first meeting of the new-look Executive Board in Nice in January, the EB reconvened today in its first online meeting in the wake of the 144th IOC Session.

“We had constructive discussions about various matters that will define the LA28 quad, and made decisions about competitions that I believe will excite our community. It was a vibrant meeting and I’m so pleased that we have a fresh and strong Executive Board that is not afraid to debate the challenges and opportunities that lie in front of us.”

Furthermore, the UIPM Athletes Committee has been invited for discussions with the IOC Sport Department and IOC Athletes Commission, which will be arranged soon.

The EB was joined in its meeting by Kit McConnell, Sport Director of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), who provided a detailed explanation of the IOC’s decision-making around the LA28 Olympic Games quota. UIPM’s reaction to the announcement of the athlete quota can be read here.
