‘Valuable experience’ gained at IPC Classification meeting in Bonn (GER)
UIPM representatives were among a record number of attendees at the International Paralympic Committee Annual Classification meeting at IPC headquarters this month.
Over 140 representatives from Paralympic Sports International Federations, Recognised Paralympic Sports International Federations, National Paralympic Committee, IPC classification research teams and personnel attended the three-day meeting in Bonn, Germany. Representing the UIPM Para Commission was Head of Classification Dr Roberto Nahon and Para Pentathlon Advisor Dr Nic Robinson.
The meeting covered information on compliance of the new IPC Classification Codes which comes into effect in January 2025 as well as discussions on the implementation of the Code, classification education, and athlete support. There was also opportunities to share evidence-based research data and best practices.
UIPM Para Pentathlon Advisor Dr Nic Robinson said: “Being able to engage and network with the International Paralympic Committee Classification personnel across the world has been such a valuable experience.
“This allows for our continued progression in Para Pentathlon to align closely with the Paralympic movement. Important connections have also been established for the future projects to create a valid, fair and inclusive Classification System within Modern Pentathlon.”
