laser-Run City Tour: Colombo (SRI) raises the bar
The 2nd Laser-Run City Tour to take place in Sri Lanka was successfully staged in the capital city of Colombo with more than 200 athletes taking part across the Elite, Under 19, Under 15 and Under 11 age categories.
The event was held near the historic Independence Square in Colombo which is also a centre of leisure sports within the city. There was a mixture of children from schools in rural areas of the country and from leading schools in Colombo taking part.
The event was also marked by a huge response to the organisers’ call for volunteers, who came forth from different sectors of society to get involved in the drive to encourage participation in UIPM Sports.
Two prominent universities, the University of Moratuwa and the University of Sri Jayawardenapura, took part – and not only by providing athletes. They also erected stalls at the event to educate athletes and spectators about scientific approaches to do with sports apparel, biological measurements, health and training tips.
