The strategic objective of the Oceania Modern Pentathlon Confederation is to increase the reach of the UIPM within the Oceania region and to promote and organise events within the UIPM suite of sports, with a focus on development activities.
There are currently three active federations in the small but far-spread Oceania region – Australia, New Zealand and the newest member (from 2023) Cook Islands. The incorporation of obstacles into the UIPM suite of sports will allow much greater opportunity to develop the sport throughout the region, where, by virtue of remote geography and population there is very limited infrastructure and facilities available in the majority of Oceania NOCs. Oceania hopes to add a fourth member Federation by the end of 2024.
The Australian Federation is the largest in the region in respect of membership and activities, and is very proud to have the 2016 Olympic Champion Chloe Esposito amongst its members. Membership numbers in Australia remain consistent with regular representation in UIPM international events.
The New Zealand Federation has gone from strength to strength in recent years, with a large membership increase. Due to geographic proximity, New Zealand has been instrumental in the development of newest member Cook Islands, conducting several in country coaching clinics. New Zealand also leads the way in the region with the integration of Para sports.
Oceania’s newest member federation, the Cook Islands, has a small but very active community, focusing on laser run, biathle and triathle. Within their first year of membership, they already have over 10 athletes registered with UIPM and a representative took part in the 2023 World Biathle/Triathle Championships in Bali.
All Federations within Oceania are run by a small core group of hard working volunteers, without whom, we would not be able to conduct events or development activities.
