UIPM 2019 Global Laser Run City Tour: Athletes in Tczew (POL) enjoy inside track
The adaptability of the Global Laser Run City Tour was underlined when the first event to be held in Poland had to be moved indoors due to heavy rainfall.
After side-stepping the elements, local organisers managed to stage an excellent competition for athletes aged nine to 49 in the historic city of Tczew, as this video illustrates.
Racing took place in the sports and entertainment hall of Secondary School No.2 in Tczew, a city with a long history dating back to 1198. The competition was opened by Tomasz Tobianski, Director of the Central Sports Centre in Tczew, while trophies were handed out by Jan Szymczuk, President of the Pomeranian Modern Pentathlon Association.
A spokesperson for the local organising committee said: “Due to unfavourable weather, we decided to transfer the Laser Run competition inside the sports hall. All participants received commemorative medals.”
The second GLRCT to take place in Poland will follow hard on the heels of the first, with Starogard Gdanski the next stop on the circuit on 15 June.
The GLRCT was created to provide an entry point to UIPM Sports for people of all ages in urban communities around the world.
Another 100 cities have been selected in 2019 as hosts of the GLRCT or the Biathle/Triathle National Tour. The full calendar can be viewed at the UIPM website, where you can also find more information on UIPM’s various multi-discipline sports.
In September, the UIPM Laser Run World Championships will be incorporated into the Pentathlon World Championships for the first time in Budapest (HUN), where Laser Run is also on the programme for the 1st World Urban Games.
In December, Laser Run and Triathle will both feature for the first time in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in the Philippines.
