UIPM 2019 Global Laser Run City Tour: Teen athletes handle the heat in Banha (EGY)
It has been another busy year for UIPM Sports in Egypt and the city of Banha hosted its first competition as the Global Laser Run City Tour visited Egypt for the third time.
A total of 315 athletes competed in eight age categories from Under 9 to Senior, with a large quota of 72 participants at both Under 13 and Under 15 level.
Racing at Banha Stadium was held in the evening due to the intense morning heat in the city, which lies 50km to the north of the capital Cairo.
A spokesperson for the local organising committee said: “The organisation was so perfect, even in a new venue. The results were processed quickly and effectively and the awards ceremony was greatly appreciated by all athletes, coaches and parents.”
The Egyptian Modern Pentathlon Federation will continue a busy 2019 season by hosting a Biathle-Triathle National Tour in the resort of Hurghada on September 27 and another GLRCT two days later.
The Global Laser Run City Tour was created in 2017 to provide an entry point to UIPM Sports for people of all ages in urban communities around the world.
Another 100 cities have been selected in 2019 as hosts of the GLRCT or the Biathle/Triathle National Tour. The full calendar can be viewed at the UIPM website, where you can also find more information on UIPM’s various multi-discipline sports.
In September, the UIPM Laser Run World Championships was incorporated into the Pentathlon World Championships for the first time in Budapest (HUN), where Laser Run also featured as a showcase sport at the 1st World Urban Games.
In December, Laser Run and Triathle will both feature for the first time in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in the Philippines.
