Masters athletes gather for historic first NORCECA Championships in Marietta (USA)
The UIPM Masters movement has entered new territory with the first continental championships to be staged in North and Central America.
The 2019 Pentathlon and Tetrathlon Masters Open NORCECA Championships took place in Marietta (USA) from October 5-6, with teams coming from Ukraine as well as neighbouring Canada and the USA itself.
The event in Atlanta, Georgia comes in the wake of the recent ECMP Masters European Open Championships in Gyomro (HUN) and demonstrates the global scope of the movement.
It was organised by Keith Berryhill and Atlanta Team Pentathlon and marked the first time that Pentathlon Masters from North and Central America had come together to identify their continental champions.
Peter Engerisser, UIPM Masters Committee Chairman, said: “Overall this competition was an important start signal for future multinational Masters competitions on the American continent.
"Many thanks to Keith Berryhill and Atlanta Team Pentathlon for taking the initiative and making every effort to organize and conduct this event in a professional manner. And to all athletes, female and male, who undertook some long journeys and came to Marietta to compete.”
