UIPM 2023 Pentathlon World Cup Ankara: Reti (HUN) takes control in Women’s Semi-finals

• Strong Fencing gives 30-year-old a platform for success in Women’s Final
• Serapinaite (LTU) and team-mates Clouvel (FRA) and Oteiza (FRA) stay in hunt
• Abdelmaksoud (EGY), Song (KOR) and Arceo (MEX) take the tape in Semi-finals

Kamilla Reti of Hungary took a 15-point lead into the Women’s Final after a strong Semi-final performance on the third day of UIPM 2023 Pentathlon World Cup Ankara.

Salma Abdelmaksoud of Egypt and Seungmin Seong of Korea crossed the line together to win the first Women’s Semi-final by 9sec from Alessandra Frezza of Italy and Ieva Serapinaite of Lithuania.

Mariana Arceo of Mexico was the top performer in the second Semi-final, followed closely by Haeun Jang (KOR) and Alice Sotero (ITA).

Reti (HUN), 30, goes into Saturday’s Final with an overall lead of 15 points after scoring 24V/11D in the Fencing Ranking Round. There were 22 victories apiece for her team-mate Tamara Alekszejev (HUN) and Elzbieta Adomaityte (LTU), but neither of them performed well enough in the other disciplines to qualify for the Final.

Serapinaite (LTU) and France team-mates Elodie Clouvel and Marie Oteiza each scored 21V/14D, while Great Britain qualified a quartet of athletes as Jessica Varley took the last of the 18 places to join Kerenza Bryson, Emma Whitaker and Olivia Green in the Final line-up.

UIPM 2023 Pentathlon World Cup Ankara continues tomorrow (April 14) with the Men’s Semi-final before the Finals on ‘Super Saturday’ (April 15), with the Mixed Relay concluding the competition on April 16.
