UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann visited UIPM Headquarters to finalise key organisational matters ahead of the upcoming 73rd UIPM Congress in Riyadh (KSA).

During his visit, the UIPM President held important discussions with Secretary General Shiny Fang to ensure all preparations are on track. The productive meetings focused on aligning strategies and refining logistical details, highlighting the UIPM leadership's commitment to a successful event.

President Dr Schormann personally purchased and donated a sculpture created by 1989 Modern Pentathlon world champion Lori Norwood (USA) to UIPM HQ.

Originally crafted by Ms Norwood for the centenary of the Olympic Modern Pentathlon at the London 2012 Olympic Games, the piece now holds a special place in the organisation's headquarters.

 

12.09. – 16.09.2024: Caldas da Rainha, POR

The UIPM 2024 Pentathlon U17 World Championships brought together young athletes from around the globe and UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann attended the competition, emphasising the importance of nurturing future talents in the sport and ensuring he didn’t miss the opportunity to witness the promising young athletes in action.

The event was a great success, thanks to the exceptional organization by the Portuguese Modern Pentathlon Federation led by Dr Joao Almeida.

Vitor Marques, the Mayor of Caldas da Rainha, warmly welcomed all participants, showcasing the city's hospitality and support for the sport.

President Dr Schormann presented President Dr Almeida with the UIPM Medal of Honour, recognising his outstanding contributions to Modern Pentathlon, including a long period of service from 1992 to 2008 as a member of the UIPM Medical Committee.

Dr Almeida was instrumental in advancing athlete health and safety, pioneering the introduction of blood control testing during the Olympic Games - a significant step in ensuring fair competition and athlete welfare. His work has had a lasting impact on the sport's medical standards and integrity.

President Dr Schormann met with several leaders of national delegations to discuss the strategic development of the Obstacle discipline, focusing on equipment needs and financial resources.

During the discussions, he also spoke with the acting NOC President of Portugal, Dr Artur Lopes, about the future Olympic programme and the financial support provided to FPPM on the road to LA28, and Dr Manuel Brito, the NADA President of Portugal.

It was emphasised that the transition to Obstacle discipline marks a significant step towards a future of rapid growth, offering National Federations a cost-effective solution and increasing global accessibility to the sport.

President Dr Schormann had very important discussions with the President of the Peru NF, Bernardino Marcelo Leyva Meneses, regarding the upcoming Congress and the development of the new Obstacle discipline.

President Meneses also explored the potential for future competitions in Peru, focusing on how the country can play a key role in promoting and supporting this exciting new edition to Modern Pentathlon. President Schormann expressed strong interest in strengthening Peru’s involvement, both in hosting international events and in developing local talent for future competitions. These talks marked an important step forward in expanding the sport’s reach in South America.
