73rd UIPM Congress: Executive Board meets in Riyadh (KSA)
- EB finalises motions for Congress attended by more than 100 nations
- UIPM 2026 Congress awarded to Budapest (HUN)
- Competitions awarded to Egypt, Lithuania, Portugal and South Africa
During a two-day meeting, the Executive Board of the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) finalised a range of motions for consideration by the 73rd UIPM Congress, taking place on November 16-17.
More than 100 National Federations (NFs) are poised to take part in UIPM’s biannual democratic forum over the next two days. Congress delegates will vote on NF motions as well as EB motions relating to the following topics:
- UIPM Statutes, including the roles of UIPM Honorary Figures and amendments to the definition of UIPM Sports
- UIPM Rules on Internal Organisation, including creation of the Obstacle Commission
- UIPM Election Rules
- UIPM Medical Handbook
- Para Sport Regulations
- Biathle-Triathle Rules and Laser Run Guidelines
- Modern Pentathlon Rules
The EB also approved a budget for 2025/26 which will be put forward to Congress, while awarding the following competitions and events:
- UIPM 2025 Biathle-Triathle World Championships: Mossel Bay (RSA)
- UIPM 2026 Biathle-Triathle and Laser Run World Championships: Funchal, Madeira (POR)
- UIPM 2026 Obstacle Laser Run World Championships: Soma Bay (EGY)
- UIPM 2026 Pentathlon Junior and U17 World Championships: Druskininkai (LTU)
- UIPM 2026 Congress: Budapest (HUN)

UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann said: “The UIPM Executive Board met here in Riyadh before the 73rd UIPM Congress and the main discussions were linked to the motions, the budget and competition awards for the coming years.
“We also had discussions about future development steps through our Confederations, to have more competitions worldwide, also with new Obstacle combinations, and steps relating to preparations for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028.
“This weekend we will welcome our global community to the 73rd UIPM Congress, where they will make important decisions about the future of our sport in a very democratic way. We also look forward to our Annual Awards Gala which will honour the best athletes and best competitions, as well as long-serving officials.”
