Modern Pentathlon

On 23th of June, during the International Olympic day, the National Olympic Committee of Belarus and the Belorussian Olympic Academy (BOA), in collaboration with Belorussian Federation of Modern Pentathlon and under support of European Confederation of Modern Pentathlon celebrated Sport, Youth and Joy by implementing Olympic educational programme “MOVE. Modern Pentathlon being core sport of the Olympic movement is an excellent basis for Olympic education activities. The idea of “MOVE. LEARN. DISCOVER” action was to try all five sports (fencing, swimming, horse riding and combine event consisting with shooting and running) in one day and become familiar with Olympic values through all-round sport and its athletes.

The young girls and boys dressed in colourful Olympic day t-shirts and caps spent all day at competitions of the Mix Relay. They had unique opportunities to show their skills in swimming and running MOVEments, to LEARN Olympic values – EXELLENCE by watching and performing fencing, FRIENDSHIP while participating at athletes’ parade and then standing next to the podium and close to the winners and medallist, RESPECT in contact, for many of them for the first time, with horses, and finally to have fun, excitement and joy DISCOVERing laser pistol shooting. Throughout the day kids were cheering not only Belarusian athletes but participants from all countries doing it on their own languages.

The special contribution for the children’s memorization of the International Olympic Day was done by the UIPM technical delegates Corinne Bouzou and Dmitry Menshikov who during all day were performing as judges for children activities.

All the children were happy and satisfied with Olympic and Modern Pentathlon celebration. Bright and motivating for future memories will stay with them until the next Olympic education activities!
