UIPM 2016 World Cup #2 - Women's Individual Finalists

The world's leading women Pentathletes got a flavour of what awaits them at Rio 2016 today during qualifying for the second stage of the 2016 UIPM World Cup series.

The event doubles as an official Olympic Test Event with World Cup points up for grabs in the same venues that will be used when the Olympic Games comes to Rio this summer.

In the beginning of the day, the Deodoro Aquatic Center was inaugurated with the presence of Dr. Klaus Schormann, President of the UIPM and the local authorities Joaquim Monteiro, President of the Municipal Olympic Company, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, President of Rio 2016 Organising Committee, Aloizio Mercadante, Minister of Education and George Hilton, Minister of Sports.

Dr. Schormann said "We celebrate the legacy of Baron Pierre de Coubertin with our sport and we have to thank to Rio 2016 Organising Committee for all the efforts they have achieved.

"Deodoro will be a great place to visit during the Olympic Games".

Many of the participants in World Cup #2 (March 9-13) are still pursuing Olympic qualifying points as well as trying to secure a place on the World Cup podium and a place at the Final in Sarasota/Bradenton, USA (May 6-8).

The men's individual qualifying takes place tomorrow, and Olympic qualifying points can be accrued on Friday and Saturday when the women and men take part in their respective finals, before World Cup #2 comes to a close with Sunday's Mixed Relay.

The Combined Event of each final at World Cup #2 will be available on live stream at uipmtv.org where highlights of World Cup #1 can now be viewed. For up-to-date results of all competitions go to pentathlon.org.
