Zsofia Földházi defends her Junior World title in Drzonkow

Zsófia Földházi for the second time in a row became a Junior World Champion. Silver medal was won by Ieva Serapinaite and the bronze went to a host country's representative Anna Maliszewska.

fencing-ieva-and-maliszewskaThe fencing was won by Ieva Serapinaite (pictured, left), who beat 29 rivals. In second place Anastasiya Spas and Isabella Isaksen were tied as both claimed 25 wins on pistes.

At the swimming pool the winner was Zsófia Földházi who had the time of 2:11,35. She was 0,05 secs faster than Alice Fitton and 2,42 secs faster than Spas. The lead in the overall classification was kept by Serapinaite with Spas and Földházi behind her.

In riding none of the athletes achieved the maximum result of 300 points. The closest was Sunwoo Kim, but she had a knockdown at one of the last obstacles. The lead was kept by Ieva Serapinaite, Zsófia Földházi went up to second while third after two events was twin sister of the leader, Emilija.

Just before the start of the warm up the torrential rain came to Drzonków. At the start of the combined event the leading Lithuanian had 31 seconds of advantage over the Hungarian and 45 over her sister. For the first two running loops the difference between Ieva Serapinaite and Földházi was diminshing and finally the defending champion caught her rival up.

zsófi-winsAfter the last shooting the Hungarian was already leading and she didn’t lose her position until the end of the race. Behind the backs of Földházi and Serapinaite there was a fight for a bronze medal between Anna Maliszewska and Anastasiya Spas. The host country’s representative managed to overtake her rival just before the last shooting and she kept her position until the crossing line, winning the bronze medal for the happiness of herself and many of her supporters, who came to the competing area.

Zsófia Földházi - It was raining but I knew I had a chance for the win. I won the Senior European Championships here last year. Maybe it was the first step to today’s win. I always make my best in the competition.

Ieva Serapinaite - I didn’t hope that I will take a second place because after a training competition I had my leg hurt so this is amazing. I can’t believe it!

Anna Maliszewska - I am very happy! The competition is very well organised and I am happy, that finally I won a medal here, in Drzonków. That’s gorgeous! I hope it will go on, because the competitiion is not over yet.

team-women-jwch2014The team classification was won by Brits Alice Fitton, Francesca Summers and Joanna Muir. Silver medal was taken by Wei Wang, Qi Huo and Xiuting Zhong of China and the bronze medal went to Mexicans Tamara Vega, Carmen Mayan and Mariana Arceo.
