UIPM 2022 Pentathlon World Cup Cairo: Women's qualification 

The UIPM 2022 Pentathlon World Cup season kicked off today in Cairo (EGY) with 53 athletes taking part in a hectic and exciting Qualification round for the Women's Semi-final. 

Italy’s Elena Micheli, a silver medalist at the UIPM 2019 Pentathlon World Championships, got her year off on the right note as she set the pace for the rest. Great Britain’s Jessica Varley and Hungary’s Michelle Gulyas were among those in close pursuit while the host nation had plenty to cheer with Malak Ismail (EGY) also at the front of the field.

The event in Cairo kicks off the first season under Modern Pentathlon’s action-packed New Format and with elimination at every stage 36 athletes have safely qualified for Thursday’s Women’s Semi-final.

Pentathlon World Cup Cairo continues tomorrow (March 23) with qualifying for the Men's Semi-final. The finals take place on March 26th.
