UIPM 2022 Pentathlon World Cup Cairo: Men’s qualification 

After an exhilarating women’s qualification session kicked off the UIPM 2022 Pentathlon World Cup season on Tuesday, it was the Men’s turn in Cairo (EGY) on Wednesday. And they didn’t disappoint with an action-packed start to the competition that saw 62 athletes vie for places in the Semi-final. 

It was the host nation who had the most to cheer as an Egyptian one-two led the qualification pack. Moutaz Mohamed set the pace but compatriot Mohamed Elgendy, the  Tokyo Olympics silver medalist brother, was in close pursuit. Martin Vlach (CZE), Christopher Patte (FRA) and Richard Bereczki (HUN) were also prominent. In total 13 countries will be represented by the 36 men who made it through Wednesday’s qualification. 

The event in Cairo kicks off the first season under Modern Pentathlon’s exciting New Format and with elimination at every stage, 36 athletes have safely qualified for Friday’s Men’s Semi-final.

Pentathlon World Cup Cairo continues tomorrow (March 24) with the Women’s Semi-finals, when 18 athletes will vie to make it through to the Final. The Men’s and Women’s Finals take place on the same day, Saturday March 26th.
