UIPM 2022 Pentathlon World Cup Ankara: Langrehr (GER) takes narrow lead into Final

• Top fencer wins first Semi-final alongside Jawaid (SWE) and Abdelmaksoud (EGY)
• Olympic champion French (GBR) lurking after winning second Semi-final
• Home favourite Ozyuksel (TUR) safely into Super Saturday Finals

Rebecca Langrehr of Germany will take a slender lead into the Women’s Final after performing strongly in the Semi-finals at UIPM 2022 Pentathlon World Cup Ankara.

Tokyo 2020 Olympian Langrehr (GER) finished first in Semi-final A along with Marlena Jawaid of Sweden and Salma Abdelmaksoud of Egypt, with Great Britain duo Charlie Follett and Joanna Muir, Sunwoo Kim of Korea and Kamilla Reti of Hungary also qualifying strongly for the Final on Super Saturday (June 11).

Semi-final B was won by Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Kate French (GBR), 6sec ahead of Francesca Tognetti of Italy with Ilke Ozyuksel of Turkey, Mayan Oliver of Mexico and Jessica Varley (GBR) close behind.

Langrehr (GER) scored 25V/11D in the Fencing Ranking Round, one more victory than Jawaid (SWE) and Tognetti (ITA). In her first competition since the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Games in August 2021, French (GBR) scored a respectable 21V/14D to sit 15 points behind the overall leader.

UIPM 2022 Pentathlon World Cup Ankara continues tomorrow (June 10) with the Men's Semi-finals, followed by the Women’s and Men’s Finals on June 11 and the Mixed Relay on June 12.
