UIPM 2023 U17 World Championships: Men’s Qualification

The UIPM 2023 U17 World Championships continued today with athletes taking part in the Men’s Individual Qualification in Alexandria (EGY).

The 18 best performers in each of two qualification groups earned passage to the Men’s Final. With 1,359 points Mohamed Hassan of Egypt won the first group alongside team-mate Sief Soliman (EGY), Franciszek Dubrawski of Poland and Almos Kiss-Szollosi of Hungary.

The second group was also won by the host nation as Osama Zaki (EGY) top-scored with 1,380 points, 11 more than Bartosz Szmytke of Poland with Oleksandr Klymenko of Ukraine not far behind.

This was the first time ever a global cohort of male Youth athletes had taken part in an individual Pentathlon, which now comprises Fencing followed, Obstacle, Swimming and Laser Run. Jakub Samiec of Czech Republic was the top Obstacle performer with an excellent time of 25.84sec – which will stand as the new world record at least until the Men’s Final.

The UIPM 2023 U17 World Championships runs from July 11-16, continuing on July 14 with the Fencing Ranking Round for both women and men. The Women’s and Men’s Finals are completed on July 15 with the Mixed Relay closing the competition on July 16.
